As professionals in higher education counseling centers and health clinics, you may encounter students whose sexual and romantic lives are causing serious unmanageability—for example repeated sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy scares, compulsive dating app use, non-consensual or boundary-blurring encounters, academic impairment due to obsession or heartbreak, or total withdrawal from intimacy and campus life. S.L.A.A. is a resource you can offer students as a path toward healthier, safer, and more balanced lives.

Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (S.L.A.A.) is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition-based fellowship for individuals seeking recovery from sex and love addiction. Many students and young adults first recognize their struggles while in college or graduate school, when the combination of new freedoms, technology, and stress exposes or intensifies addictive patterns in their sexual and relational lives.

Students affected by sex and love addiction issues may present with anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, sleep disturbance, academic problems, and crises related to breakups or online exposure. Some find it difficult to limit sexual behavior despite clear health and academic consequences; others become consumed with romantic intrigue or fantasy that undermines their ability to focus on studies and build stable friendships.

S.L.A.A. provides a structured program of recovery through meetings, sponsorship, and the Twelve Steps, with an emphasis on sexual and emotional sobriety and building healthier patterns of intimacy and self-care. Our fellowship is open to people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and belief systems, and many younger members report finding peers who understand the unique pressures of modern dating, technology, and campus life.

Our literature includes self-diagnostic tools and other resources to help students determine whether they identify with the problem. Meetings are widely available online, which can be especially useful for students who want anonymity, have transportation barriers, or are studying abroad.

We invite you to consider mentioning S.L.A.A. in psychoeducational materials, workshops, and individual counseling when issues of compulsive sexual behavior, unhealthy relationships, or avoidance of intimacy arise. Peer-based fellowships like S.L.A.A. provide valuable support between sessions and after graduation.

Sincerely,
Fellowship-Wide Services, S.L.A.A.
