Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (S.L.A.A.) is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition-oriented fellowship based on the core principles of Alcoholics Anonymous. We support individuals seeking recovery from sex and love addiction. Many S.L.A.A. members have had contact with the legal system.
We want to ensure S.L.A.A. is in your arsenal of tools to support defendants, litigants, or participants in problem-solving courts who are ready to address underlying patterns contributing to their legal issues.,
Sex and love addiction is characterized by obsessive-compulsive patterns of sexual or romantic behavior that continue despite adverse consequences and attempts to control them. Some people repeatedly engage in high-risk or boundary-violating behavior; others become so consumed with romantic obsession or online intrigue that they neglect responsibilities and court obligations. Still others withdraw from all intimacy, increasing isolation and emotional instability. Without support, these patterns can undermine compliance with court orders and the prospects for long-term stability.
S.L.A.A. offers a spiritual recovery program through regular meeting attendance, sponsorship, and working the Twelve Steps, with an emphasis on defining and maintaining personal bottom-line sobriety. The fellowship does not provide legal advocacy, supervision, or reporting to the court, but many participants voluntarily share their involvement and progress with counsel or supervising authorities to demonstrate commitment to change.
Our literature describes the characteristics of sex and love addiction and includes self-diagnostic tools that can help individuals assess whether S.L.A.A. may be relevant to their situation. Meetings are available across many jurisdictions and online, making it possible for individuals with travel or time constraints to participate.
We invite you to become familiar with S.L.A.A. as a voluntary resource for individuals whose legal problems are intertwined with compulsive sexual or relational behavior. Many people in S.L.A.A. credit a crisis in court as the turning point that led them to seek help.
