As a mental health professional, you may encounter individuals whose romantic and sexual behaviors create profound unmanageability in their lives, including compulsive partnering, repeated infidelity, high-risk sexual behavior, stalking or obsessive pursuit, emotional volatility, self-harm after relational ruptures, or withdrawal from all intimacy.

Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (S.L.A.A.) is a Twelve Step, Twelve Tradition-oriented fellowship for people who seek recovery from sex and love addiction. S.L.A.A. is modeled on Alcoholics Anonymous, and the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop living out a pattern of sex and love addiction. Many of our members first learned about S.L.A.A. through therapists who recognized that compulsive sexual and relational patterns were undermining treatment progress and overall well-being. S.L.A.A. is a resource that helps people move toward healthier attachment, boundaries, and self-care.

S.L.A.A. members report a wide range of addictive patterns, from compulsive pursuit of relationships and sexual encounters to chronic preoccupation with fantasy and romantic intrigue, as well as anorexic withdrawal from social, emotional, and sexual nourishment. Many arrive in therapy struggling with shame, secrecy, and repeated failures to control these behaviors on their own, even when consequences are severe in their work, relationships, and sense of self-worth.

S.L.A.A. offers a recovery structure through meetings, sponsorship, and the Twelve Steps.  S.L.A.A. is designed to complement—not replace—professional treatment. Our literature includes resources that help clients identify problematic patterns and provide a peer-support framework between sessions.

S.L.A.A. meetings are held in many countries, in person, online, and by telephone, and are available every day of the week. Individuals with varied sexualities, gender identities, backgrounds, and belief systems attend meetings.

We invite you to explore our website, literature, and pamphlets for professionals so you can confidently discuss S.L.A.A. as a resource with appropriate clients. Please feel free to share this information with colleagues who may be working with individuals affected by sex and love addiction.

Sincerely,

Fellowship-Wide Services, S.L.A.A.
